7 Days of Colour – This idea was brought to life back in 2015 although I only had the verse sections. I like the simplicity of the 2 fingered chords, just moving one fret up the neck of the guitar. It seemed to suit. My vocal using the capo on the first fret. I felt the song had potential so gave it some more time over lockdown and came up with the bridge and chorus melodies. I wanted to record four songs and for me this had to be one of them. The song is about coming through a difficult stage in life, from darkness to eventually seeing colour again; hence 7 days of colour.
If I Can’t Have You – I came with this idea using a loop pedal back in 2019. I started messing around with some melodies and harmonies, the idea finally was used at the start of the song. During the recording process I felt the outro needed a bit of a lift, it was then I came up with the line “even when the clouds are rolling in”, etc. I felt it really worked well and certainly makes the tune. I gather this song is what you might call a love song.

Suitcase – It was during a break at a private party in French Franks back in 2014 that I strummed the original chords and verse melody for this song. I took the idea home and put down some lyrics, soon I had written what was a difficult break up tune. We first played the song live during a Cowes Week set on the marina, it seemed to go down well and we continued to play it throughout our sets. I must admit the song gives me a real buzz to play, especially when Pete comes in with the guitar riff mid song.
Stop Falling – The newest song of the four, created during the first lockdown. The song relates to the pandemic, the idea came to mind using a capo on the sixth fret. I came up with some chords and unbeknown to me played them to a 6/8 rhythm. This song captures the sense of human life changing and the natural world not just carrying on as normal but benefiting from the change in human behaviour, with it ending in the line “please stop falling”. It instantly had a Crowded House/Pink Floyd vibe for me, Nick Coler captured this perfectly in the production.
